Caythorpe & Fulbeck JFC mens Charity team, sponsored by the Red Lion Caythorpe, lined up against Wellingore Old Boys on Friday evening, in a match sponsored by The Smoothing Iron, in support of Prostate Cancer UK.
In the early stages Wellingore were the stronger team with Caythorpe's keeper and man of the match making some early saves, to keep the score at 0-0.
As the game went Caythorpe began to play better, but despite some good moves, they couldn't break the deadlock, despite creating numerous chances. Meaning that at half time the score remained 0-0.
The second half started brightly, with both teams playing some attractive football, but it was Wellingore that broke the deadlock in the 66th minute.
Wellingore won a corner on the left, which Caythorpe cleared to a the edge of the area, where it was picked up by a Wellingore player who fired in a powerful effort from distance, which was parried by the Caythorpe keeper, only for a Wellingore striker to pounce and prod home from close range.
Caythorpe came back into the game strongly and it was now the Wellingore keepers turn to make saves, but the save of the match was made by Mikey Kirk. Wellingore played the ball in from the left wing, finding a striker unmarked 6 yards out central to the goal. Shooting first time, it looked a certain goal, by Mikey had other ideas, making an instinctive dive to his left, he some how managed to tip the ball clear and keep Caythorpe in the game.
Caythorpe buoyed by their keepers heroics, were now dominating, with Josh Allens pace being utilised well, chances were coming, but the Wellingore defence held firm with fine tackles denying James Parson and Ben Machin. Finally in the 75th minute, Caythorpe got the goal they deserved. Rob Walters' passed the ball through the Wellingore defence, down the inside left channel and Ben Machin, with an arching run beat the Wellingore offside trap, only to see his shot saved by the keeper. This time Caythorpe got the break and James Parson followed up and stroked the ball home to bring the scores level.
