U11s Braced for Tigers Cup Tie
The U11s played Hykeham Tigers for the second time in a month, this time on home soil in league cup action.
A freshly marked, but rutted pitch meant playing surface conditions would be tricky. Thankfully, the Sunday morning weather was onside, keeping muddy boots to a minimum.
Tigers, caught Caythorpe on the back foot from the off. Some sharp link up play was on display, seeing the orange tigers play the ball around the park with relative ease. The U11s grew into the half with some link up play of their own, stretching the pitch with some direct, cross field passes. Both sides counteracted each others attacks, ending in a first half stalemate, but the football on show was commendable.
The second half was a spectacle in its own right. Caythorpe had found their rhythm, pressing hard and getting the ball high up the pitch. The opener came from the Caythorpe skipper, assisted by 7, with a well struck ball arrowed into the top corner from range.
Tigers fought back, with their midfield talisman demonstrating lovely close control. A combination of 3, 7, 8 & 17 extinguished any danger due-diligently and strong.
An unavoidable head gifted tigers an indirect free kick on the edge of the box. A wayward kick saw Caythorpe counter quickly. 10 managed to somehow dig out a clean strike, despite stumbling and avoiding players to double his tally. 17 this time took the assist.
The boys held on to seal the game in a hugely entertaining game to watch.
Collective performances resulted in a fantastic Caythorpe team display to be proud of.
