Caythorpe U13s 1–4 Lowlands U13s

The opening game of the season for Caythorpe U13s saw them face Lowlands, a side they knew well from previous encounters. The boys were ready to get going after pre-season training, and looked smart as they took to the pitch in their brand new home kit, kindly supplied by Holton Independent Schools.

Lowlands made a strong start and applied pressure early on, but Caythorpe worked hard to compete across the pitch, before finding their feet to stitch some lovely passing moves together. Leon showed wonderful close control in midfield, and Teddy looked a threat on the left wing with some good early crosses. The back line of Thomas and debutant Josh, with Captain Albert sitting just in-front of them stood strong for the opening 25 minutes, until Lowlands managed to sneak ahead. Still, Caythorpe kept striving into Lowlands’ half - notably midfielder Charlie unleashing a powerful drive just narrowly wide. Unfortunately it was the away side that doubled their lead in the 34th minute, and with Caythorpe heads dropping they added a third on the stroke of half-time.

Into the second period, Caythorpe came out positive and eventually found their reward from a set piece in the 52nd minute. A well-delivered corner created an opportunity at the far post, where Bradley met the ball and lashed it into the net to give Caythorpe a deserved goal and lift the home side. Summer signing Lennon worked tirelessly, and we’re sure will be a great addition to the midfield. Fellow midfielder Carson also looked super sharp, sending in some inviting crosses. Lowlands for their part continued to threaten and added a fourth against the general run of play at this point. Undeterred, Caythorpe drove forward and secured a penalty kick - after some obvious shirt pulling in the box! Albert’s well taken kick was met with an equally smart save - and the game finished 1-4. Despite the goals conceded, it must be said that Caythorpe keeper Jaxon was absolutely outstanding throughout the match, producing a number of excellent saves to keep Caythorpe in the contest on several occasions.
