Sat Nav’s were set for a sunny Sunday on the coast for the U11s. Skegness Town were today’s opponent, who welcomed the U11s in B-League action on the plush 4G pitch.

Town, clad in white shirts and red shorts, lined up against a 9 strong Caythorpe, who aimed to repeat last weeks result.

A seaside breeze blustered Wainfleet Rd as the U11s came out the blocks strong. Town chose to sit off Caythorpe, allowing us time to play the ball around. Wingers 10 & 11 largely dictated play, with 7 looking assured in the middle of the park. 9 also got in the action out wide, whilst 6 looked to exploit space in the Town defence. Ever the defensive unit, 8 moped up any attack on the Caythorpe goal, allowing 1 minimal work to do. The first half hard work meant both sides would break all square.

Second half saw Town repay the favour, coming out strong themselves. Resilient Caythorpe continued to stand strong, with some more dexterous clearances by 17.

The Town back line was finally breached, after 11 just poked the ball over the line after an assist from 6. 14 added to this tally later in the half with a well deserved effort. Town did have their chances, no more so than when the Caythorpe bar was rattled from some distance out.

In the dying moments of the game, a penalty was awarded to Town after 7 brought down the opposition attacker just inside the box. Whether VAR would have ruled it out as soft is debatable, but the spot kick decision remained. Town despatched the penalty fairly clinically, with 1 unable to parry a well taken kick.

Spoils remained with the blue and black. This meant a well deserved trip for fish, chips and beach frivolities were on the cards.
