Blue On Blue Battle Ends All Square.

The U11s were in cup action yet again this week, hosting Bardney Panthers at home in Fulbeck.

The bright sunshine and still conditions for a Mid-October morning were ideal, especially as these will soon become few and far between as the season progresses.

Both sides were represented by subtle variations of blue and black, however it was enough for the kids to differentiate each other. Just.

Yet another physical game and fast play was on the cards, something which the U11s are getting used to given the calibre of the upper leagues. Bardney had a strong midfield, especially down the right, however Caythorpe were equally strong, snuffing out any advances on goal.

The pivotal moment of the first half came in spectacular fashion. A sublimely weighted pass from #9 on the right, was taken on the volley by #14 to give Caythorpe the lead going into the break.

Bardney hit back within the first 2 minutes of the second half. A hastily taken pass in caught the Caythorpe defence napping. Some lapse closing down and frantic defending failed to prevent the ball finding the back of the Caythorpe net.

The remainder of the second half saw both sides trading blows. The tackles were strong the determination evident, and the ‘sweeper keeper’ of Bardney kept the home boys honest. Caythorpe’s own #1 arguably kept us in the game however with some tremendous fingertip saves to be proud of.

The game ended with football ping-pong, with both sides humping the ball forward trying to force a chance.
